Applies to: First Class upgrade auctions purchased through the Seatfrog app
Does not apply to: Superfare, Secret Fare, Rail Tickets or TrainSwap
Why did I win an upgrade before the auction ended?
You may win an upgrade before the auction ends if your bid reaches an Instant Upgrade price point.
What is an Instant Upgrade?
Instant Upgrades are pre-set price thresholds within an auction.
When a bid reaches or exceeds one of these price points:
The highest bidder at that moment is immediately awarded an upgrade.
The auction continues for any remaining available upgrades.
Instant Upgrade price points are set in advance and are hidden from bidders.
They are not displayed in the app and cannot be viewed before bidding.
Why does this happen?
Seatfrog auctions offer multiple upgrades on the same train.
Instant Upgrade price points allow upgrades to be confirmed early when certain price levels are met.
This means you can secure an upgrade before the auction timer ends if your bid reaches one of these hidden thresholds.
How pricing works
If your bid reaches an Instant Upgrade price:
You win the upgrade immediately.
You pay the Instant Upgrade price, not necessarily your maximum bid.
The auction continues for remaining seats.
For example:
The current highest bid is £19.
You place a bid of £25.
An Instant Upgrade price is set at £24.
If your bid reaches or exceeds £24:
You win immediately.
You are charged £24 (plus the £3 platform fee per ticket).
The next bid must be higher than £25.
You will only be charged if you win.
Important
Instant Upgrade price points:
Are set in advance.
Are hidden from bidders.
Cannot be manually triggered or adjusted by support.
