Applies to: Upgrades purchased through the Seatfrog app
Does not apply to: Superfare, Secret Fare, Rail Tickets or TrainSwap
How do I use my Seatfrog upgrade?
If you win a Seatfrog upgrade, your upgrade barcode is sent to both:
Your Seatfrog app
Your registered email address
You do not need to print anything — though can print from the email if you wish to have a physical copy.
First Class lounge access
If your upgrade includes First Class lounge access (where available):
You must show:
Your valid Standard Class ticket
Your Seatfrog upgrade barcode
Both are required for entry.
Lounge access is subject to the rail operator’s terms and availability.
Important: Station ticket barriers
Your Seatfrog upgrade barcode will not open station ticket barriers.
To enter or exit the station, you must use your original rail ticket.
Do not scan your upgrade barcode at the gates.
Before boarding
Check your upgrade details in the Seatfrog app:
Coach number
Seat number (if assigned)
Your upgrade is valid only for the specific train shown in the app.
You must also have a valid Standard Class ticket for the same train.
On the train
Board the coach shown in your upgrade details.
Sit in the assigned seat shown in the app.
When requested, show the Train Manager:
Your Standard Class ticket
Your Seatfrog upgrade barcode
If you cannot produce a valid Standard Class ticket, you may be charged the full First Class or Premium fare.
If your seat is marked “Unassigned” or “Any Available”
If your upgrade shows “Unassigned”:
A specific seat was not reserved.
You may sit in any unoccupied First Class seat.
The seat must not be reserved by another passenger.
Seat allocation remains subject to onboard staff instructions.
Important information about reservations
Seatfrog reservations apply to the full journey of the train, not just your boarding and destination stations.
For example:
If the train runs from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross, your reserved seat may be held for the full route, even if you board at York and travel to Peterborough.
Accessibility assistance
If you require access assistance or specific seating needs, contact the train operator’s Passenger Assistance team before placing a bid or purchasing an upgrade to ensure availability.
